Abstract: Unlike the Internet which has been around in some shape or form for almost 30 years now and has a relatively stable architecture based on a handful of well known and recognized industry standards, the IoT has really only been around for the last 5 or 10 years (depending on your definition of IoT) and has a quickly evolving landscape of vendors, protocols, standards, and technologies with perhaps hundreds of options and combinations available to the practitioner to use in terms of technical architecture.
