Joe is currently in the Azure SQL Data Warehouse team working primarily on the storage engine and tier-1, Petabyte scale enterprise data warehouse systems. Immediately prior to this, he was the PM owner and co-inventor of SQL Server 2016 Stretch Database; the first truly hybrid database in the industry. Joe cut his database teeth on Oracle serving hard time as a developer then DBA. One too many ORA-01578 later, he joined Microsoft to work on SQL Server in the areas of upgrade/migrate, performance, scalability and security on both on-premises and Azure services. In addition to features in box releases, he has shipped multiple V1 IaaS and PaaS data services. Between stints in the product group he spent several years working with customers around the world to design, deploy and manage business critical database systems. When not solving data management problems, Joe tries to onsight 5.11s or hunt for good eats (he is taking a sabbatical from trying to cure his 5-year old Australian Labradoodle’s obsession with squeaky tennis balls).
Joe brings a great deal of passion and energy to share his knowledge with the community. We at DataPlatformGeeks thank him for his unconditional support to our community efforts.
