Data Platform Day
Event Type | Free In-Person Event (Full Day) |
Opening Note | Shivir Chordiya (Director, Microsoft Data Platform, India) | Community Note | Deepak Rajendran (Community Program Manager, India) |
Session 1 | Introducing Azure Data Lake This session talks about the Azure Data Lake (Store and Analytics) and their capabilities. The very open, web HDFS compatible store is a massive scale data store designed for extremely high throughput and low latency for analytics workloads. At the same time, its built in security ensures you can run even your most critical workloads on it. The session also talks about the new U-SQL language for processing (Data Lake Analytics) massive amounts of data in a very familiar environment. U-SQL is designed to be closer in syntax to T-SQL and uses C# to extend its footprint. If you know SQL, you can use U-SQL from Day 1 and process Big Data right away. Speaker: Debarchan Sarkar (Microsoft) |
Session 2 | Design Awesome Visualization With PowerBI Let’s explore how a powerful cloud-based service helps data scientists visualize and share insights from their organizations’ data. In this session we will explore data visualization possibilities with Microsoft PowerBI. It will help an organization take advantage of its data, reduce risks, increase rewards, and unlock insights to drive more informed decisions for every department. Speaker: Sudhir Rawat (Microsoft) |
Session 3 | Achieve Great Performance with Azure SQL Database using Built-in Intelligence Managing and tuning the performance of relational databases is a challenging task that requires significant expertise and time investment Azure SQL Database has built-in smart tuning models that help you achieve great performance for your database applications while saving you time and effort in the process. The tips and techniques that we use to troubleshoot a customer’s issue by using the SQL DB intelligent Performance features (SQL Database Advisor , Query performance Insight , Performance Dashboard) will be discussed. Query Performance Insight allows you to spend less time troubleshooting database performance by providing • Deeper insight into your databases resource (DTU) consumption. • The top queries by CPU/Duration/Execution count, which can potentially be tuned for improved performance. • The ability to drill down into the details of a query, view its text and history of resource utilization. • Performance tuning annotations that show actions performed by SQL Azure Database Advisor ++ Built in SQL Security intelligent feature run through. Speaker: Pooja Kamath (Microsoft) |

Session 4a | Introduction: SQL Server on Linux SQL Server on Linux is announced in March 2016. Welcome to Open-source. Session will cover how SQL Server works on Linux. A quick snippet about installation & using different tools to manage SQL Server database hosted on Linux operating system. Speaker: Avanish Panchal (DataPlatformGeeks) |
Session 4b | Introduction to Microsoft R Services in SQL Server 2016 R is a programming language and software environment for statistical computing and graphics supported by the R Foundation for Statistical Computing. The R language is widely used among statisticians and data miners for developing statistical software and data analysis. Now R is integrated with SQL Server 2016. In this demo I will discuss how to configure R and How to use R from SQL Server. Speaker: Sandip Pani (DataPlatformGeeks) |
Session 5 | Monitoring SQL Server Performance – Part II In Part I, Amit Bansal had demoed how to identify the root cause of a performance issue in SQL Server. He gave several practical examples how to identify slow running queries. In Part II, Amit will show how to fix common performance issues. He will give example related to server configuration, database tuning, indexing strategies and query tuning. And you will see instant performance improvement with SQL Server. In short, do you want to be rock star DBA? Join Microsoft Certified Master & MVP Amit Bansal in this demo-packed session where he will demo real world performance tuning cases, identify them & fix them. Speaker: Amit RS Bansal (MCM, MVP, SQLMaestros) |
Session 6 | Using Analytic Function to solve complex analytical problems Analytical functions are important addition to SQL Server. One can quickly and easily solve complex analytical queries using SQL Server Analytical functions.Prior to analytical functions, Joins, sub-queries, temporary tables were used to write complex analytical queries. In this demo-heavy session, you’ll learn to solve few complex analytical problems such as moving averages, running totals, percentage or top n within a group using joins or subqueries and analytic functions. We’ll then compare the performance and usability of the analytic function solutions over the join/subqueries solutions. This session is an extract from Ahmad’s advanced SQL Developer Master Class, the only T-SQL Master Class in India. If you are a T-SQL developer, .Net developer writing T-SQL code, you won’t want to miss this session. Speaker: Ahmad Osama (MVP, Sr. Consultant, SQLMaestros) | Closing Note | DPG Team |
